Cabinetry Beyond the Kitchen

As cabinetry designers, kitchens and bathrooms are typically our focus. At Two30Nine, we take pride in helping our clients create their dream kitchens, fully customized to their storage and functional needs. But what about the other areas of your home?

 We’ve had the pleasure of working with many of our clients on projects that include multiple rooms or focus on additional spaces throughout their homes. Here are some of my favourite in-house projects outside of the kitchen and bathroom:

1) Entertainment Areas

This family room is one of my favourite examples of a truly inviting and cozy space where the cabinetry fits right in. For this project, we combined glass display cabinets on the left with a framed-in section on the right, giving the TV its own dedicated spot while allowing the fireplace mantel to remain the focal point.

2) Mudrooms

This mudroom design strikes a great balance between minimalist style and everyday function. I love the combination of hooks for coats, backpacks and scarves, along with a rod for hanging longer coats.

There’s also a great mix of open and closed storage, allowing the family to keep everyday items easily accessible while tucking away seasonal pieces when they aren’t needed.

3) Closets

Whether you’re looking for something simple or something more elaborate, custom cabinetry is a great way to create a closet that is completely tailored to you.

We can customize exactly how many drawers, hanging rods and hooks you need, and even incorporate accessories like tie hooks, belt hooks, hampers and more. Every detail can be designed around how you actually use your space.

4) Dining Room

This is one of my favourite spaces from the Elden project. The dining room wall creates a beautiful display feature using antique mirrored glass, textured glass, and rich, warm-toned wood. Not only does it create a stunning feature wall, but it also provides plenty of storage for all the items needed when hosting friends and family.

5) Offices

This little office space was another favourite project from last year. The homeowner wanted something functional that would blend seamlessly with the rest of their suite, creating a dedicated space to work from home when needed.

We combined warm-toned painted cabinetry with our light Tennessee walnut melamine and created framing around the desktop while hiding additional storage behind cabinet doors. We also incorporated reeded doors to add a subtle textural accent. They complement the limewash walls and wood grain while adding another layer of interest to the light cabinetry.

6) Display Spaces

This project was one of the highlights of last year for me. The homeowner wanted a truly unique space to display their books and favourite pieces.

The entire design was thoughtfully configured around the existing pipes, beams and a notch in the wall. We also set out to make almost every opening a different size or shape, keeping the design intentionally asymmetrical so that the shelving itself became part of the display. The result was a fully custom, playful design that feels completely unique to the space.

7) Laundry Rooms

Though it’s a small space, this laundry room has functionality built into every detail.

The clients opted for a combined washer and dryer unit, pull-outs and a DryAway storage rack that tucks away when not in use. Along the sink wall, we added a floating shelf to keep the room feeling open and airy, while an integrated strip light provides additional lighting when needed. It’s a great example of how thoughtful design can make even a small space feel functional, efficient and beautiful.

8) Bedroom

In this home, we added two custom nightstands for the homeowners, along with panels for the bed frame to create a cohesive and sophisticated look.

The cabinetry features a custom wood laminate that adds warmth and layers of texture, complementing the rest of the space beautifully.

9) Library

If you’re a big reader, you’ve probably dreamed of having a full library, complete with a rolling ladder and shelves filled with books.

For this client, we combined those classic library elements with a functional desk space, file storage and a perfect little reading nook. It’s a beautiful example of how cabinetry can turn a room into a space that’s both practical and personal.

10) And Beyond…

One of the best things about working with a local custom cabinetry supplier like Decor, is that there really are no limits to where it can be used. From entertainment spaces and home offices to mudrooms, libraries and bedrooms, cabinetry can be designed to make almost any room more functional, organized and beautiful.

So, while kitchens may be our specialty at Two30Nine, they’re certainly not the only spaces we love to design.
